The role of Champion States and International Institutions in the promotion of Women’s Rights

Since Sweden in 1999, several states around the world have adopted abolitionist legislation, implementing policies to both combat the demand for the purchase of sexual acts and provide access to justice, protection and alternatives for victims of the prostitution system. 

This position is in line with that of international Human Rights law, in particular the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others, the Palermo Protocol and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

This panel will address the ways in which these policies and conventions need to be enforced by both states and international institutions.
